Skullcap (Scutellaria) refers to a genus of flowering plants in the mint family, Lamiaceae, with American skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora) being the most commonly used in traditional medicine. Used as a nervine and sedative to relieve anxiety, stress, and nervous tension, insomnia, muscle spasms, and nervous system disorders.
