Body & Linen Sprays: Aromatherapy for Your Body and Space

Botanical aromatherapy works through the olfactory-limbic system connection — aromatic compounds inhaled through the nose trigger responses in the limbic system, the brain region governing emotion, memory, and autonomic function. Body and linen sprays are one of the most accessible delivery methods for this effect.

How to Use Body Sprays

  • Pulse points: Wrists, neck, inner elbows — warmth amplifies diffusion
  • Hair: Mist lightly from 30cm away; hair holds scent well
  • Palms: Spray and cup hands over nose for direct inhalation
  • Yoga mat: Mist before practice for an immersive aromatic environment

How to Use Linen Sprays

  • Pillowcases: Mist 30–60 minutes before sleep; allow to dry fully
  • Towels & bathrobes: Light mist after laundering
  • Upholstery: Test on hidden area first; avoid silk and delicate fabrics
  • Room mist: Spray into the air (not directly onto surfaces) for ambient diffusion

Blend Recommendations by Goal

Sleep & Relaxation

Lavender, chamomile, clary sage — all have documented effects on GABA activity and cortisol reduction. Lavender is the most researched aromatherapy compound for sleep quality.

Focus & Clarity

Rosemary (1,8-cineole), peppermint (menthol), eucalyptus — evidence for improved cognitive performance and alertness. Best used in the morning or during work sessions.

Mood Elevation

Citrus oils (bergamot, sweet orange, lemon) — limonene has documented anxiolytic effects. Bergamot specifically has evidence for mood improvement in clinical settings.

Grounding & Calm

Cedarwood (cedrol), frankincense (alpha-pinene), sandalwood — earthy, resinous compounds associated with reduced anxiety and meditative states.

Quality Criteria

When evaluating any body or linen spray:

  • Ingredient transparency: Full ingredient list, not just "fragrance"
  • No synthetic fragrance: "Fragrance" or "parfum" on a label can represent hundreds of undisclosed chemicals
  • Clean base: Distilled water or hydrosol + alcohol (for preservation and dispersion)
  • Essential oil concentration: 1–3% for body sprays; 0.5–1.5% for linen sprays
