Niaouli essential oil is steam-distilled from the leaves and young twigs of Melaleuca quinquenervia, a tree native to Australia, New Caledonia, and Papua New Guinea. Often called the “gentler tea tree,” niaouli shares many of tea tree’s antimicrobial properties but with a softer, more medicinal-camphoraceous aroma and a lower sensitization risk. Its primary constituent, 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol), is well-documented for respiratory, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory activity.
