Myrrh essential oil is solvent-extracted from the hardened resin tears of Commiphora myrrha, a thorny shrub native to the Horn of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, sourced here from Egypt. The resin — known as mo yao in Chinese medicine — has been used for over 2,600 years for embalming, fumigation, oral health, and wound care in ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome. Its dominant constituent, furanoeudesma-1,3-diene, contributes to its warm, rich, balsamic aroma and its documented anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.
