Frankincense has been traded for over 5,000 years. The resin is harvested by making incisions in the bark of Boswellia serrata trees, allowing the milky-white sap to flow and harden into tears. These tears are then steam-distilled to produce the essential oil. The species sourced here — Boswellia serrata from India — produces a warm, spicy, woody-balsamic aroma that is distinct from the more commonly known Somalian or Omani frankincense.
